The most widely recognized mistakes roofing companies in Derby make.
Some of the uninsured Derby roofing companies are not "strapping down" this term is utilized when you put on a climbing tackle before going on the rooftop, you then toss a rope over the rooftop and attach it to something on the other side sufficiently solid to hold your weight, not doing this can bring about falling of the rooftop to potential passing so please make an effort to remain cautious i know that most of the Derby roofing contractors we contact have there policies in order.
Whether you are a private Derby roofing materials manufacturer or a lone Derby roofer, you should know that there can be weak points in the rooftop that you can possibly fall through if the material can't hold your weight. There are by and large extremely evident signs if a rooftop is exceptionally deteriorated its generally going to be soaking in with the weakest point in the center of the indented territory. You should cautiously stroll around these depressed spots at whatever point it is conceivable. Im sure most of you veterans who have been roofing in Derby your whole lives know this by now but i just wanted to mention it quickly.
Not utilizing roofing jacks is a standout amongst the most widely recognized mistakes i see Derby roofing contractors doing. Because you have roofed numerous homes over numerous years does not mean a tumble off a rooftop cannot end your life. Material jacks offer backing for feet, knees, arms, something to take hold of on the off chance that you start to slide wildly down the rooftop. They additionally give you something to grapple your harness rope to. i would say more than half of the Derby roofing companies we come across do indeed use roofing jacks. Derby roofing has become so large that some of the guys think they do not have to use the proper safety precautions, but the truth is no matter how well you can roof a house you should always be as careful as possible not to get hurt.
Any Derby roofer knows the threats of not wearing head protection or a helmet on an occupation like Derby roofing, but rather numerous still come to work with no cap. gambling changeless harm at whatever time they are inside 20 feet of the rooftop being worked on.
On the off chance that you are in Derby roofing a 2 story house, you need somebody to hold the ladder while you climb. In the event that your stepping stool or ladder tips at these statures you could be taking a chance with your life.
if it's not too much trouble to be protected folks, let us know more security tips in the event that we missed any, see you next time. for all you Derby roofing contractors please stay tuned and visit our website thanks.

How the roofing contractors in Derby measure your roof.
Whether you are a Derby roofing contractor or a DIY roofer, you need to have correct roof measurements for evaluating the cost and labor involved. When your looking to measure the roof you need to measure the square footage of the roof. In order to get an accurate measure of this square footage you must get on the roof, measure the length times the width of each facet of the home, add them together and this will give you the total square footage of the roof, This is how most of the Derby roofing companies will do it.
Another way to measure your roof and in my opinion the best, most accurate and safest method is to get an Aerial roof measurement, i will briefly go over all the different values of the aerial roof measuring method. Many Derby roofers will measure by going up and down a ladder and using a tape measurer like we talked about earlier. This way the Derby roofing contractor can provide accurate measurements but its a bit time consuming if you take all the proper safety precautions. Here in an example of a roof that would give any Derby roofing company a challenge and leave him spending an entire day to measure, a roof with over 40 different facets all with different pitches, valleys, hips, ridges and rakes. Many of these facets will be very steep and almost impossible to walk up and down with a tape measurer making this a very extensive part of the job in these cases sometimes taking more then one day just to price the job.
It is becoming more popular in the Derby roofing industry to use an aerial roof measurement to quickly and efficiently take away all that wasted time and unnecessary risk, by getting accurate roof measurements neatly written and organized just a simple printer and you can be done with the roof measurement task. Derby roofers say that aerial roof measurements are the most accurate method on the market today, they give you the perimeter, hips, valleys, ridges and rakes of the entire roof. The Aerial roof measurements are usually very easy to read with each page showing you a different aerial view for the pitches or degrees of each facet of the roof. On one of the pages you will see the rafter runs, there will also be a page for the total square footage of each facet. There will also be a very detailed page for placing a materials order. Using Photography and Satellite imagery along with GPS this technology has made measuring a roof more accurate and more safe then ever before. These measurements will provide all the information you need to provide to a roofing contractor for a bid or for you to cost out a DIY project for repairing your Derby roof.
I hope this post helps you decide how to measure your roof i will be posting more information about Derby roofing in later post thank you.

Derby roofing 10 safety tips
In this post we will be discussing the 10 most important safety tips of roofing in Derby. Safety first because no one wants to get hurt! We have found that many Derby roofing contractors follow these safety guidelines.
1.) If you are going onto a roof as a Derby roofer or as a first time DIY roofing project, you will need to be attached to a harness, attached to a rope, attached to the other side of the roof that you are working on. A fall from 10 + feet can be fatal. Ground workers should wear helmets while people are working on the roof, there will likely be shingles falling from the roof. I believe it is usually part of your insurance policies to be wearing a helmet when your within 25 feet of the roof being repaired.
Many of the Derby roofing companies i have worked with try there best to stay within these guidelines.
2.) When roofing in Derby if you are using metal roofing make sure no one is below you while you are installing or carrying, the metal sheets have been known to slide very easily on a well pitched roof or even blow off the roof before properly fastened. This can prove itself to very dangerous as the sheets are sharp on all sides and can weigh up to 50 pounds, falling from a 10+ foot drop... just be careful. If you have a Derby roofing service repairing your roof make sure to have then tarp of areas with delicate or fragile objects, they can be destroyed by a falling sheet very quickly.
3.) So if you are repairing a Derby roof and you can see sunken in areas on the roof avoid going near them until you have properly removed the roofing materials to reveal where the rotted area is, you will be able to see where it is unsafe to walk when the underlayment has been removed (the rotted wood will look wet, sometimes black, brown, or even green, and it will feel soft to the touch
4.) Anytime a Derby roofing contractor is climbing a ladder over 15 feet off the ground you should have someone to hold the ladder, another tip when climbing this high is to build a make shift "pully" with a rope and your roofing jacks. What this means is using a rope pivoted around your roofing jack for leverage, hung to the ground your partner (or you if your alone) can tie up your bundles, you do not have to go up and down the ladder with the bundles, simply lift the bundles with the rope, when the bundle hits the gutter tie the rope off to the roofing jack and retrieve your bundle. Tip: Derby roofing companies generally set the ladder next to where they are retrieving the bundle, also gives you something to hold onto while pulling the bundle up.
CAUTION: remember to be wear your harness when roofing in Derby and if people are above or below you while using this technique, they need to be wearing a helmet.
5.) You will see many roofing contractors in Derby and other parts of the country taking the guards off there nail guns. The guard is there for a reason and should never be tampered with. Doing this has resulted in many people going to the hospital with nails shot into their hands, arms, legs, torso, even the head in some cases. Very dangerous and we highly recommend not tampering with any guard on any tool.
6.) It seems ridiculous but we have to mention this because it has been an issue in the past, Smoking. While you are trying to preserve your roof the trash container you use for the tear off can become a bon fire very quickly on a dry windy day roofing in Derby. you can prevent this by telling the crew not to smoke near there or at least not to throw the cigarettes in the trash container.
7.) Derby roofing contractors know that no one wants a nail through there boot so stay mindful when your pulling nails to pick the ones up that you can while your working and have someone on the ground do a quick run around the house with the broom magnet before each break period.
8.) Any time your roofing in Derby you need to be mindful of the wind not to get swept off your feet or tipped over by a 40 mile an hour gust. Also besides the wind you need to be careful for branches that can sway with a strong breeze and knock you off the roof. Finally you want to pay attention to the weather forecast because a vicious rain fall could ruin the interior of your home in 20 minutes during certain parts of a complete tear off, if you are prepared you can have the roof tarped off and get back to work as soon as the rain subsides. I know that many Derby roofing companies use this strategy when it comes to short spurts of bad weather.
9.) I had to mention this even though it does not really have to do with safety, it more falls under the category of legal. You must get a permit in almost every state including the Derby roofing industry, they require you to state the property, and the change being made, you pay the fee and post the permit visibly so an inspector can see it if he comes by (you usually do not notice they are there, they check the permit and the structure, then walk away).
10.) Our last safety tip is more in the category of Derby roofing property insurance. I suggest covering the ground level door, windows, ac units, nice shrubs or plants anything that looks nice because they will be damaged if underlayment falls directly on them or ricochets off something into them. You can protect them with boards or tarps for the more delicate plants and shrubs. 4x8's work best for the windows, doors and ac units.
I hope this post helps all you Derby roofers out there, be safe and ill see you in the next post.

Your next step to Repairing your Derby roof is shingling. I will have a post soon on how to measure your roof and why aerial measurements may be the best solution for you if you cant find my post then you need to google "how to measure a roof". Once you have measured your roof you can purchase your materials. Our Derby roofing businesses will lift your shingles up to the roof, start at which ever corner you feel like (usually opposite side that the sun is on). When your shingling remember to use a harness and rope and have someone hold the ladder as your going up and down. There are many safety techniques you should use when roofing in Derby because of high winds you need to be anchored to something when your on a roof. After you have finished shingling the entire roof there are still a few more steps to insure the Derby roofing job is done correctly.

Inspect windows, doors, gutters, ac units, and siding for damage. The most common sign that you need a new roof is a leak. you do not want to wait until this happens because it can already have caused thousands in damage before you even fix the roof. If you inspect the shingles each year you should be able to tell when they are near needing to be replaced. Asphalt shingles life expectancy is around 15 - 20 years, on an Derby roof, shingles may have to be replaced in as little as 5 - 10 years especially on the south side of the house. If you see curling edges or extensive cracking that is a sign they will need to be replaced soon to prevent a leak.
I hope this post helps I will be posting more about Derby Roofing soon thanks.

Do it yourself Derby Roofing tips ( The "tear off")
Welcome to our Derby roofing blog. We are glad we could be here to share some tips with all of you. Today we will be covering the tear off of a roof.
When it comes to do it yourself work, its never going to be easy, so get as many friends and family members as possible to help with job. Once you have your team together you have to decide what material your new roof will be made of. once you have decided this you can measure the roof and estimate how much of the material you chose you will need to reroof. AFTER you have the materials and tools you can then begin your Derby roofing tear off.
Most Derby roofing companies will use this technique also but if your doing the job yourself tear off the roof in small sections, finish, then do another section, if you have a team then you should finish the tear off in a few hours. Use roof jacks, nail them down to the rafters. make sure you have placed your trash container(s) on the side of the house your beginning the tear off.
Derby roofing contractors will tear off the ridge caps. you can now work your fork under the shingles. continue prying the shingles up trying to roll them into a ball on the way to the container makes it easier for some people. The shingles may get too heavy and have to be pulled apart just do whatever makes the job get done quickest and safest. There will be flashing around the different objects protruding from your roof, if you plan to reuse any of this flashing (Derby roofers usually do) then you need to be very careful when pulling out the nails. After stripping the shingles down to the roof jacks remove the roof jacks. remove the remaining shingles to the edge of the roof. you may need to cut the ice and water barrier if you cannot get your fork under it. If the barrier continues to not come loose leave it and go right over it.
